U.S. Dressage Team Sits in Second Place After Day 1 of Aachen CDIO5*

The United States had a strong first day of competition at the CDIO5* in Aachen, Germany, earning a total score of 218.414 that puts them in second place behind the German team. Aachen is the final leg of the 2016 FEI Nations Cup Dressage Series, and the United States hopes for a successful showing in Aachen that will allow them to close the gap behind current series leader Sweden.
Steffen Peters and Four Winds Farm’s Legolas 92, a 14-year-old Westphalian gelding, led the United States by earning a 77.243 percent and placing fourth individually with high marks for their piaffe and passage tour. Peters was originally entered on Rosamunde, but had to switch mounts earlier in the week in order for Rosamunde to recover from a muscle strain.

Rounding out Team USA was Katherine Bateson-Chandler on the 11-year-old KWPN gelding Alcazar, owned by Jane Forbes Clark. The pair earned a 66.314 percent.
