Team USA Leads CDIO3* Nations Cup After Day One

Wellington, Fla. – March 28, 2018 – Immediately after the U25 Nations Cup awards ceremony, the senior riders kicked off the CDIO3* competition starting with the small tour division consisting of the FEI Prix St. Georges test and ending with the FEI Grand Prix test for the big tour. Four nations battled it out to start the team competition out strong with Team USA ending the night in the lead for the team medals.

The senior teams are made up of three to four riders, with the top three scores counting for the total. The teams are made up of either all small tour riders, all big tour riders or a mix of both. Riders who ride in the big tour are given a bonus 1.5 percent added to their score.

Team USA earned a total score of 226.891 to put them in first place after the first day of competition. Ashley Holzer aboard Havanna 145 kicked off the competition for Team USA. Holzer and the 11-year-old Hanoverian mare (Hochadel – Riviera, Rodgau) owned by Diane Fellows, earned a score of 69.043 percent totaling 70.544 with the 1.5 percent bonus. Team USA’s second rider was Olivia LaGoy-Weltz riding Lonoir, her 14-year-old Danish Warmblood gelding (De Noir – Lorani, Loran) to a score of 72.804 percent for a final score of 74.304. Third in the ring for the United States was Sabine Schut-Kery aboard Alice Womble’s 12-year-old Hanoverian stallion (San Remo – Rivera, Ramiro’s Son II), Sanceo. Schut-Kery and the stallion earned a score of 73.109 percent for a total of 74.609. Adrienne Lyle served as the United State’s anchor, aboard Salvino. Lyle and Betsy Juliano’s 11-year-old Hanoverian stallion (Sandro Hit – Dynastie, Donnerhall) earned a score of 76.478 percent for a final score of 77.978.

The senior team competition will continue tomorrow with the FEI Intermediate I and FEI Grand Prix Special. The total scores from each day will be added together to determine the final team standings after the second day of competition.
