In 1983, Patrick Guerrand-Hermès, head of the equestrian division of the Paris-based saddlery and fashion company, presented a trophy to the USET in memory of his son, Lionel, a talented young rider who was killed in an automobile accident in 1981 at the age of 18. The Hermès award itself is permanently at the USET Foundation’s Gladstone, NJ headquarters and it is engraved with the name of each year’s recipient.
Presented annually to a Junior/Young Rider in one of the Olympic disciplines who exemplifies the Team’s ideals of sportsmanship and horsemanship.
